Location: Rapid City, SD
Salary: $45,000–$50,000 annually (commensurate with experience)
Status: Full-time (some evenings and weekends required)
Position Summary
The Director of Education & Programs leads the development and delivery of engaging educational and public programs for audiences ranging from toddlers to older adults. This position supervises education staff and volunteers, collaborates with community partners, and helps grow the museum’s educational impact.
Key Responsibilities
The ideal candidate for this role should be comfortable designing and overseeing educational programs, including but not limited to: camps, lectures, and public events. They should be well-versed in hands-on learning and the development of educational materials. Effective collaboration with all museum staff and community partners on exhibit-related programming is a must. Recruitment and training of educational staff and volunteers, responsible budget managing, and grant writing are common responsibilities found within this role.
Qualifications
Qualifications that the ideal candidate for this role would possess include a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Museum Studies, History, Science, or a related field, and 3–5 years of experience in museum education, public history, science communication, or a similar field. Experience in program development, supervision, and grant writing is a plus. The candidate must possess a valid Driver’s License and pass a background check.
