Executive Director Job Description:
Summary:
The Executive Director reports to the President of the Board of Directors (BOD) and will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Historic Homestake Opera House’s staff and volunteers. The ED will manage general operations according to business plan; rehabilitation plans for the general facility (building); as well as development of the HHOH non-profit organization. Other duties not specifically listed may be required as the HHOH is a small but dynamic non-profit with limited resources.

Essential Functions:
-Budget and Finances:
-Develop annual budget and manage to ensure income and expenditures follow approved budget. Works to provide solutions to budgetary variance and provides monthly reports to the BOD. Ensure HHOH policies and procedures are followed by tenants, vendors, production members, volunteers, and any other parties utilizing the building and its facilities.
-Provide oversight of the Development Director (DD) to ensure fundraising, capital campaign, and endowment/foundation activities are within budget to achieve goals and objectives established by the BOD.

Provide Leadership & Management:
o Manage and communicate with HHOH’s employees to support business plan and goals. Work to counsel, coach, motivate, delegate activities, interactions and events or job duties.
o Actively communicate with and engage HHOH patrons, volunteers, event committees, board members, performers and partnering organizations.

Develop Programming, Retail and Events:
o Coordinate musical or dance performances, theatre productions and community events in collaboration with appropriate board committees, sponsors and grant providers.
o Identify and contract with artists and theatre groups for plays, concerts, and other events within established financial guidelines, marketing strategy and business plan.
o Develop and implement event marketing plans with attention to applicable awarded grant requirements

Provide Effective Communications:
o Act as a representative and advocate of the HHOH with all media, government agencies, insurance companies, business groups, and arts organizations.
o Communicate with BOD through a written monthly report of events planning and completion, goals, key developments, and issues.
o Use external presence and relationships to create new opportunities.

 

Executive Director – Key Traits, Skills and Qualifications
Required Qualifications (These are minimum qualifications required for the role)
• 5 years of relevant experience in working for an arts or non-profit organization
• Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, theatre, business or equivalent
• Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends as driven by event planning and execution
• Ability to lift up to thirty (30) pounds. Physical mobility, including necessary climbing, crawling, stooping, kneeling and ability to perform outside work with exposure to fluctuating weather
• Demonstrated experience in supervising others and directing work activities of a team
• Demonstrated experience in functions and operations of a theatre
• Proven organizational ability to adhere to schedules and budgets
• Financially responsible and capable
• Knowledge of basic accounting protocols and ability to review finances with others to build consensus around priorities and monitor ongoing expenditures
• Willingness to be held accountable for the sustainability and overall health of the
organization
• Demonstrated solid knowledge in strategy and vision within a non-profit environment
