August 25 — Deadline for Drop Off – All work must be at the Center no later than 5 PM on Friday, August 25th. Work may be dropped off anytime (during our open gallery hours) between August 1st and August 25th.

August 30 Opening Reception/Awards are on Thursday, September, August 30th, from 5:30-7 PM for the artists and public. Awards will be announced at 6pm.

October 1 — Exhibition Closes

October 2-4Artwork must be picked up or arrangements must be made for work to be picked up at the BAC by October 4th, 2023.

Conditions & Eligibility:
All artists and craftspeople over 18 residing in South Dakota are eligible to enter. Payment as well as a signed and completed entry form must be submitted to the BAC before August 25th. All work must be original/completed and not previously exhibited at the BAC. Current and former BAC Board Members and staff are eligible to enter.

All media will be included with the exception of photography (annual photography specific show in January). Entrants are responsible for transportation of work to and from the BAC. Return shipping must be included, if shipping is required.

Entry Fee:
$20 per pieces with a limit of three (3) works per artist. Card, cash, or check made payable to Brookings Arts Council will be accepted. Online payment is also available.

Entry Instruction
Entry may be completed in person or online before the deadline of August 25, 2023. To register online please complete the linked Google Form in its entirety. You may either print and complete the attached labeling and release forms yourself, or complete one in person upon the delivery of work to the BAC. Registration will not be considered completed and work will not be accepted until the entry fee is paid.

Awards
Awards will be announced at 6pm, artists are not required to be present to win. Decisions of the judge or jurors is final, honorable mentions may be given at the juror’s discretion.

First place – $100, Second place – $75, Third place – $50, Fourth place – $25

Presentation & Framing:
Two-dimensional work must be ready to hang by wire, no sawtooth hangers, metal clip hangers, or loose pieces of paper please. Three-dimensional work cannot exceed 75 pounds, and wet works will not be accepted. Artwork tags must be attached to the back of the work on the bottom right corner.

Transportation of Work:
Artists are responsible for the delivery and pick-up of their art. Delivery or mail ready-to-hang works to the address listed below. If mailed, artist is responsible for return shipping and handling costs.

Sale of Work:
The Brookings Arts Council receives a 25% commission on any pieces sold while on exhibit. Entry in the exhibition signifies agreement with all conditions of the exhibition. Artwork will remain at the BAC, marked as “SOLD” until the end of the exhibition, and which time the artist of the sold work will be given a check and the purchased piece will be released to it’s buyer.

Notes:
The Brookings Arts Council will take every precaution to ensure the safety of submitted artwork. However, the BAC will not be responsible for any loss or damage to your artwork, no matter how the loss or damage is incurred. Artists are responsible for insuring their own work.

Should the number of pieces submitted exceed the available gallery space, we reserve the right to limit the number displayed as gallery space allows. Artists may submit a maximum of three pieces. A minimum of one piece will be displayed. Any work of Art left at the BAC after October 8th is not the responsibility of the BAC.

The BAC reserves the right to preclude works from the show. Due to the public gallery location art depicting nudity may not portray genitalia; any nudity must depict only consensual adults. Works containing overt obscenity, violence, or culturally insensitive elements will not be accepted. The decision of the Brookings Arts Council is final on this matter.
