The Due date for the Walter A. and Lucy Yoshioka Buhler Scholarship for USD Art is fast approaching: January 31, 2020

Students planning to attend USD in Art, Art Education or Graphic Design in the Fall 2020 should apply as this equates to a full tuition scholarship for 4 years!  

Please pass this along to any students planning to pursue a degree in Art.

 

Walter A. and Lucy Yoshioka Buhler Endowed Scholarship

Biennially the College of Fine Arts will award one scholarship to a deserving student who is majoring in one of the fine arts departments.

Earnings are to be used to provide scholarships to exceptional students enrolled in the USD College of Fine Arts and the School of Business.  One scholarship shall be awarded each year and shall alternate between students in the College of Fine Arts and the School of Business.  Recipients shall be designated as “Buhler Scholars”.  Funds awarded will be applied in the following order:  tuition and fees.  Any unused funds will be returned and added to the Endowed Fund, not to be considered part of original gift value.

Students must initially meet the criteria as listed below.

  • Recipients shall be graduates of a South Dakota high school or be South Dakota residents.
  • Incoming freshmen shall have a 3.5+ GPA and/or rank in the top 25% of their graduating class and demonstrate financial need.
  • Recipients must maintain a 3.5+ GPA and have an ongoing financial need to remain eligible for ongoing scholarship support.  Subject to maintaining the GPA requisite, awards shall be equal to full in-state tuition and fees  (16 credit hours per semester per USD Financial Aid common practice) for each year they are enrolled as a full-time student at USD in the College of Fine Arts, up to four consecutive years.

As part of the application process students willing to apply for this scholarship must respond to the essay questions below.    Applicants must major in art, music, or theatre at USD to be eligible for this award.   This award is renewable for four years.

One student will be selected by the Buhler Scholarship committee to receive the scholarship award.  All candidates will be notified as to their status in the awarding of the scholarship.  Applicants will be informed by of February 14, 2020.
