The Ruddell Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of its newest exhibition, Flower and Flame, featuring the work of artist Deborah Mitchell.
The exhibition will run from January 20 to February 27, with an artist reception scheduled for Thursday January 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.
Artist Deborah Mitchell’s exhibition, Flower and Flame, emerged from the ashes of her studio, destroyed by an arsonist in 2020. In the wake of the fire, which consumed heirlooms, artworks, and materials, Mitchell found inspiration in the wreckage, salvaging charred fragments and shattered objects transformed by the flames. These materials, imbued with history and altered by destruction, became the foundation for a body of work exploring resilience and transformation. Rooted in her lifelong practice of creating art from discarded artifacts, Flower and Flame reflects the profound beauty and potential that arise from loss, turning tragedy into a celebration of renewal and creative rebirth
