A PLACE OF ART, CULTURE, AND COMMUNITY

Čhatkú Arts Center is dedicated to celebrating Native art, culture, and community. Its name reflects its purpose, a place of honor, remembrance, and vision for the future. This new space was created to uplift creativity, preserve stories and traditions, and serve as a welcoming gathering place for learning, connection, and community for generations to come.

A LEGACY ROOTED IN HISTORY

Formerly known as The Heritage Center at Maȟpíya Lúta, Čhatkú Arts Center began in 1969 as the Red Cloud Indian Art Show. Today, the Center continues this legacy through a gift shop featuring the work of more than 300 Native artists, a renowned collection of nearly 13,000 pieces of Native art, a gallery hosting two to three exhibitions each year, the annual art show, and much more.

OUR MISSION

Čhatkú Arts Center interprets, honors, and celebrates the continuum of contemporary artistic expressions of Indigenous people. With a strong emphasis on supporting the Oglala Lakota community, the Center provides meaningful economic opportunities for artists and educational programming that serves learners of all ages.

We look forward to celebrating this special milestone with you and sharing in a day rooted in culture, creativity, and community. We can’t wait to see you on June 6, 2026!
