Music Maker Mixer: Grants & Opportunities for Artists

Join us for this Music Maker Mixer in collaboration with The Watering Can. November’s Speaker Series session focuses on grants, and features two powerhouse women in the arts world – Kate Vandel (Arts Grants Specialist for the South Dakota Arts Council) and Maren Engel (Arts Coordinator for the City of Sioux Falls). Learn about current grant opportunities, how to apply and what resources are available to help support your artistic venture.
Come early this month and join Edwin Galindo as he welcomes guests with a vibrant selection of Brazilian repertoire from 6pm – 6:30pm. Bring a friend, and see you at The Underground!
About Kate
Kate Vandel is the Grants Administrator for the South Dakota Arts Council, overseeing the fiscal management of federal arts funding and the development of statewide grant programs. Since 2020, she has led efforts to align grant making with compliance standards and the Council’s mission to support the arts. From 2016 to 2019, Kate managed state and federal grant programs, administered the Touring Arts Program, and trained applicants and grantees to enhance program accessibility. Before her work in grants administration, she spent over a decade directing the design and installation of museum exhibitions.A southeast Michigan native, Kate holds a degree in industrial design from Purdue University and has lived in Pierre, South Dakota, since 2002 with her husband and Labrador retriever.
About Maren
Maren Engel is the Arts Coordinator for the City of Sioux Falls, working within the city’s planning department to promote arts and culture support across the community. She holds a bachelor of arts in music from Augustana University. Maren also works as a professional performing artist, voice teacher and arts advocate in the Sioux Falls area, performing with local organizations including the Good Night Theatre Collective, Midtown Coffee Radio Hour, and Transept. Maren had been an instructor with the sINgSPIRE program since its first session in 2015 and currently serves as board president for Breathe Bravely. She also sits on the Sioux Falls Arts Council as a city liaison, helping to advocate for community artists and arts organizations.
