The Eide/Dalrymple Gallery at Augustana University presents “Man Before a Mirror: Gaylord Schanilec,” March 20-April 16. This exhibition showcases the extraordinary work of printmaker, illustrator, and book artist Gaylord Schanilec, a “natural philosopher” who masterfully blends traditional techniques with deep observations of the natural world. A gallery reception with a slide lecture by the artist will be held on Friday, March 21, 7-9 p.m.

Visitors will experience Schanilec’s hand-printed images, fine press books, and unique “nature prints” from felled trees. Highlights include the “Mayflies of the Driftless Region” and the poignant hanging scrolls “Man Before a Mirror” and “The Burghers of Schanilec Lane.” Schanilec’s intricate works celebrate nature’s detail, inviting viewers to slow down and appreciate the individuality of each element he portrays. His dedication to craftsmanship and respect for nature results in art that is both technically masterful and profoundly moving.
