The Eide/Dalrymple Gallery at Augustana University presents “Man Before a Mirror: Gaylord Schanilec,” March 20-April 16. This exhibition showcases the extraordinary work of printmaker, illustrator, and book artist Gaylord Schanilec, a “natural philosopher” who masterfully blends traditional techniques with deep observations of the natural world. A gallery reception with a slide lecture by the artist will be held on Friday, March 21, 7-9 p.m.

Visitors will experience Schanilec’s hand-printed images, fine press books, and unique “nature prints” from felled trees. Highlights include the “Mayflies of the Driftless Region” and the poignant hanging scrolls “Man Before a Mirror” and “The Burghers of Schanilec Lane.” Schanilec’s intricate works celebrate nature’s detail, inviting viewers to slow down and appreciate the individuality of each element he portrays.
