Program Description

With support from Arts Midwest, Racing Magpie staff led a creative process with selected organizations’ stakeholders with a primary focus on improving practices of including Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) artists in all aspects of organizational decision-making processes. From May 2022 through January 2023, four organizations from across South Dakota were selected for participation in the program. The purpose of these consultations was to support ongoing processes or begin new ones to institutionalize new approaches and practices to engage with BIPOC artists and community members.

Edited by Talon Bazille Ducheneaux (Cheyenne River Lakota & Crow Creek Dakota), with the brilliant input from participating artists, staff, and community members: Mary V. Bordeaux, Peter Strong, Clementine Bordeaux, Jhon Goes In Center, Molina Two Bulls-Parker, Galen Laroche, Pte San Win Littlewhiteman, Dwayne Wilcox, Micheal Two Bulls, Dusty Nelson, Lily Mendoza, Gene Swallow, and Golnesa AsheghAli.
