Exhibition Titled: “Where Sky Meets Land: Settling and Resettling the Plains”
Dates: May 5th, 2025 – September 26th, 2025
Call: Artwork exploring themes of immigration, settlement, and resettlement on the Northern Plains
The Center for Western Studies invites regional artists to submit work for a juried exhibition, Settling and Resettling the Plains, exploring the dynamic history of immigration and resettlement on the Northern Plains. We encourage artists to express their unique interpretations of these themes, engaging with the experiences, stories, and impact of migration to this region. Submissions are welcome in all media.
Artists may submit up to five works for consideration. Each entry must include the title, dimensions, price (if for sale), and a sample image. Please send the completed submission form along with images to Education Associate Kamryn Miller, Center for Western Studies, 2001 S. Summit Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57197, or via email at kamryn.miller@augie.edu by Thursday, April 4, 2025, at midnight. Early submissions are encouraged to assist with planning and selection.
Accepted artists will be notified on or before April 11, 2025.
Timeline:

● April 4 – April 11, 2025: Selection process by the Center for Western Studies Art

● April 11, 2025: Notification of accepted works
● April 11 – April 25, 2025: Accepted works to be delivered to 2121 S. Summit Ave., Sioux
Falls, SD 57105; artists are responsible for shipping costs
● May 5th, 2025: Exhibition opens
● TBD: Artist Reception
● September 26th, 2025: Exhibition closes
● October 4, 2025: Works must be picked up by this date or shipping arrangements made with the artist
Please note: Return shipping arrangements can be coordinated if in-person pickup is not feasible.
ELIGIBILITY
All work must be original, unsold work, and the artist must own the sole copyright to art. Frames, mats and wiring must be professional quality and in good condition. No saw-tooth hangers. Wiring must be securely fashioned and support the weight of the artwork. 2D artwork selected for exhibition MUST BE READY TO HANG.
Shipping and Delivery: Accepted work may be hand delivered or shipped prepaid to arrive no later than April 25th, 2025. Artists are also responsible for return shipping costs.
FEES & SALES
Accepted art will be displayed as submitted and artists have the option of selling their work. Please include price when submitting art for sale. All exhibit sales will be handled through the CWS gift shop, and a 30% commission will be collected from the sale price by CWS for all pieces sold as a result of the exhibition. Please price artwork with that commission deduction in mind. All scheduling, freight costs, and delivery/pick-up charges will be the responsibility of the artist.
DELIVERY OF ARTWORK
If accepted for the show, works can be delivered directly to the Center for Western Studies, 2121 S. Summit Ave., Sioux Falls, SD 57197, during regular business hours, Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm. Special arrangements can be made if those times won’t work. Works can also be shipped to:

All works must arrive at the Center for Western Studies no later than April 25th, 2025. Works can be accepted earlier and stored for the exhibition.
