The Book Thief tells the story of Liesel Meminger, a young girl growing up in Nazi Germany during World War II, who finds solace and power in stealing books and learning to read amidst the horrors of war, all narrated by Death himself. The novel presents the lives and viewpoints of the many victims of the ongoing war. Themes throughout the story include death, literature, and love.
