Thunderdomesticity: Damsels vs. Distress
Thunderdomesticity: Damsels vs. Distress is a national juried exhibition designed to celebrate the strength of women (including but not limited to: cis women, trans women, non-binary, two-spirit, and gender fluid people). The current political climate can feel like the end of the world due to everyday misogyny plus the loss of bodily autonomy for many. Since most post-apocalyptic narratives frequently exclude or mistreat women, the Damsels vs. Distress show seeks to feature artists who uplift women. This exhibition will be juried by Miss Art World South Dakota Klaire Lockheart. Accepted artwork will be professionally printed as 8×8” squares, and the prints will be wheat-pasted to the exterior of No. 7 Center Gallery in Vermillion, SD. The images will also be included in an online exhibition hosted by packardgroupllc.com. Artwork does not need to be figurative nor narrative to be considered. All artwork that is feminist, post-apocalyptic, or anywhere in between is eligible for submission. All artists from the United States, regardless of gender, are invited to submit up to three square photographs of their art. The opening reception will occur on Final Friday, March 31st, 2023. The outdoor exhibition of prints will be on display from March 31st through May 19th, 2023. There is no entry fee to submit artwork, but artists will pay a $25 printing fee for each accepted image. No physical artwork will be shipped to the gallery. (Due to the ephemeral nature of wheat-paste, the prints will be exposed to the elements and public. The prints will change over time, and they will be destroyed in the removal process after the show ends.) Timeline Guidelines Submission |
