The Oglala Sioux Tribe (OST) Artist Laureate program is designed to acknowledge and recognize the work and contributions of an Oglala Lakota artist. The selected artist will receive a $10,000 award and commit to serving as OST Artist Laureate for the 2022-2024 Star Comes Out/Mousseau Administration. The OST Artist Laureate will be expected to represent the Oglala Lakota creative community at community events and complete a winter count in whatever medium they choose. The OST Artist Laureate will provide the Pine Ridge Reservation community-at-large new art to enjoy, greater exposure to the impact of art and artistic expression in the community, and inspiration for their own creative endeavors. The Oglala Sioux Tribe is steadfast in its support of Oglala Lakota art and culture within the community and this is an opportunity to bring artistic expression to the forefront of our community life. Artists of ALL disciplines (poetry, visual art, performance art, metal working, and so many others) are encouraged to apply. To qualify, the artist must be an Oglala Sioux Tribal member and preferably live on the Pine Ridge Reservation.
