The Matthews Opera House presents the Rose Hill Cemetery Walk June 24 and 25 at 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Rose Hill Cemetery, Spearfish. This family friendly outdoor theater event is showcased amidst the stunning hilltop views of Spearfish. Matthews’ actors, dressed in period appropriate costumes, will resurrect early settlers graveside, presenting their personal stories of antics and heroics. Many of these historical characters are known as “76ers”, adventurers arriving during the “Gold Rush”. One “76er” unknowingly shared his campfire beans and flapjacks with Calamity Jane. Another paid for Potato Creek Johnny’s transportation to the Black Hills. Listen as “Samson of the Black Hills” tell of his Herculean efforts to build the huge stone barn that still stands on Red Water Road north of Spearfish.

Plan to arrive 30 minutes before showtime to allow for parking and walking to the gathering area. Parking attendants will be at the gate upon arrival to assist with information. All walkways are paved and easily accessible. For more information, contact the arts center at (605)642-7973 or stop by the Matthews Gallery at 612 N. Main Street. Should weather disallow the outdoor setting, this event may be relocated to the Matthews Opera House.
