Military and military-connected individuals along with their families and community members are invited to attend the kickoff event on September 21st, 2024 at the Lemmon American Legion Post 66. The Brattvet Green Unit 66 American Legion Auxiliary will celebrate its 100th anniversary with music to follow at 8:00 pm (MST) from the Dakota Country Band, (Black Hills, SD).

The Lemmon American Legion Auxiliary celebration is the kick-off for the Grand River Arts Council “More than Marching” dances and dance lessons hosted at the Lemmon Legion. The More than Marching program is funded through the National Endowment for the Arts and Mid-America Arts Alliance Creative Forces Grant with matching funds from; American Legion Brattvet Green Post 66, Rolling Plains American Legion Riders Chapter 66, American Legion Auxiliary Brattvet Green Unit 66, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 66 (SAL), Lemmon Municipal Tax BBB Board, Placemakers, Lemmon VFW Post 2969, and Lemmon VFW Post 2969 Auxiliary.
The “More than Marching” event series will consist of monthly country western dances and dance lessons from September 2024 through February 2025 at the Lemmon Legion Club. Dance instructor Cindy Kahl will teach dance workshops. Live music mini-dances will be offered the same night so attendees can continue to practice the skills they have just learned.
Save the date: October 5th will be the first dance lesson. Lessons are free and open to the public.
By providing opportunities for engaging in dance, the Grand River Arts Council seeks to help participants gain a better understanding of themselves and others through creative expression while increasing their sense of belonging to our community. Participation in the arts often leads to individual and shared sense of purpose, as well as positive self-worth, supporting their ability to adapt and readjust to life’s challenges.
