OPEN CALL TO EMERGING ARTISTS
The Rapid City Arts Council is announcing an open call to emerging artists residing in the Black Hills of South Dakota for the themed exhibition As Above So Below. This abbreviated archaic phrase comes from a 2000 year old Hermetic text commonly known as the Emerald Tablet. Hermetic texts highly influenced occult, philosophical, and religious views of their time period. The full phrase reads, “That which is below is as that which is above, and that which is above is as that which is below.” Expressed in this phrase are the concepts microcosm and macrocosm. smaller systems–particularly the human body–are miniature versions of the larger universe. Exhibition and reception will take place in the EVA Gallery in the Bruce H. Lien Cultural Cafe.

OPENING RECEPTION: THURS. OCT. 29 6:00-8:00 PM

ARTWORK PICKUP: JANUARY 11-25
ELIGIBILITY:
This exhibition is open to all emerging artists living and working in the Black Hills region. our general definition of “emerging” would be an artist who has not had a solo exhibition in a professional gallery space. A professional gallery space is a place where the sole focus is to display artwork. All media are accepted.
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:
ENTRY DEADLINE: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14

Artists may submit up to 3 works to be included in the exhibit. Artworks must have been completed within 2019 or 2020.
2D Limitations: 2D work cannot exceed 48 inches (4 feet) in height or width.
3D Limitations: 3D work cannot exceed 30 inches (2.5 feet) in height and cannot exceed 12 inches (1 foot) in width or depth.

In the body of the email include:
First and last name

Email address
List of the artworks you are submitting with title, size, medium, and year for each work
If works are for sale, please include a price.
Attach your high resolution JPG images to the email. Title images at the following:
“LastName_FirstName_Title_Entry1.jpg” (i.e. Wolff_Katie_MoonSigns_Entry1.jpg)
For 2D work: 1 HIGH RESOLUTION image of each submitted art work
for 3D work: 2-3 HIGH RESOLUTION images of each submitted art work
High Resolution: 200-300 PPI
The RCAC will not retain a commission percentage for the sale of artworks in the EVA Gallery. All responsibilities pertaining to the sale of artwork reside with the artist.
$5.00 entry fee.
