Dear Teachers and Administrators, and Art Leaders,

The Western Governors’ Association is proud to announce its 4th Annual “Celebrate the West” regional art competition that challenges high school students to create works inspired by their state.

Here is a link to this year’s contest. The entry deadline is April 30, 2019. Students are welcome to submit artwork used for other contests or assignments. Students’ artwork will be returned, and shipping will be paid for by WGA.

It is easy to enter- students only need to email a photograph of their artwork along with the entry form found on our website.

We are very excited to announce our collaboration with the American Museum of Western Art-The Anschutz Collection. This Denver museum displays over 300 paintings that survey 200 years of westward expansion. Teachers may find free comprehensive lesson plans and teacher resources on their website https://anschutzcollection.org/.  We hope you will find these lessons plans useful in any instruction you offer on Western art and artists, and in conjunction with your students’ participation in the “Celebrate the West” competition.

If you or your students are in the Denver area, the museum is offering free admission for students who enter “Celebrate The West.” Enter promo code WGA2019 when buying tickets at  https://anschutzcollection.org/ or visit in person and mention participation in “Celebrate the West” to receive free student admission. The offer is valid through April 28, 2019.

Would you please help us spread the word among your students and colleagues about our competition? Attached is a teacher information flyer for your use.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions, or need additional information.

We hope you have a wonderful school year!

Thank you very much,

Christine Ogsbury
