RFQ – Urbandale – Douglas Avenue Interchange Public Art Project 7-15-19

The City of Urbandale has recently completed a beautification and signage project at the Douglas Avenue Interchange at Interstate 80/35.

The recently completed beautification improvements include four 20 ft. high ‘Gateway Signs’ (two on each side of the Douglas Avenue Interchange) with signage, lights, and cast stone bases with artistic designs.

The final stage of the interchange project is to secure the artwork that will be placed at the two dedicated median spaces along Douglas Avenue at the interchange.

The Urbandale Public Art Committee (UPAC) is issuing this Request for Qualifications (RFQ) to artists (includes artist teams) for the submission of their qualifications for the design, fabrication, and installation of artwork for permanent outdoor installation at the Douglas Avenue InterchangeThe artist selected to create and install the artwork will be provided a commission in the total amount of $40,000 (for two separate sculptures) through a contract with the City of Urbandale.

Application and submission requirements

To be considered for this opportunity, each interested artist must submit the following materials by 1:00 p.m., Thursday, August 15, 2019:

  1. A letter describing her/his interest in the project as well as the artist’s preliminary vision and plan for the artwork.
  2. Description of the medium, process, and method the artist uses to create works of art
  3. An annotated image list of previous works that includes title, year, dimensions, medium, brief description, and project cost for each work.  (Not to exceed 4 projects.)
  4. Professional resume.
  5. Name and contact information of at least three (3) individuals who can speak to the range and quality of artist’s experience and artwork as well as follow through with commissioned works.

Please note the RFQ application deadline is Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 1:00 p.m.
