Rapid City Arts Council Looking for artists to display work in upcoming Sovereignty in Recovery Art Show

About the Show

The Rapid City Arts Council is looking for all original artworks to be displayed in the upcoming exhibit, Sovereignty in Recovery. Showcase exhibits the plight of the soul liberated from addiction by the creative hand, the diligent mind, through an open heart. Each artist is encouraged to tell their stories of the beginning, the seeming ends, the heartbreaks, the restlessness, and the triumphs through drawing, paintings, sculptures, written word, and audio/visual alongside a paragraph long artist’s statement. In addition, each artist will be interviewed to expound more on their story on a podcast. The collective community as a whole will tell the stories our hearts feel, bringing together stories that when combined show the enormity of resilience that is the human spirit to live, to thrive, to try at life one more time.

Eligible Media

This open call is for any type of original 2D or sculptural artwork. Audio/Visual is limited to 3 to 4 minutes and up to 10 artists and will be displayed on a projector during the show. Due to limited resources, artwork should not exceed 40 lbs, must be suitable for viewing by all ages and require no special installation. At least one piece from each artist will go on display, but the Dahl Arts Center reserves the right to reject artist’s works that are considered unsafe, unsuitable, or for reasons of space limitation. All 2D work must be ready to hang with a solid backing of mat board or foam core and matted. Framed pieces are also acceptable.

Exhibition Dates

The exhibition will be on display in the Dahl Arts Center Education and Offices building basement’s Silo Sessions Gallery from June 4th to July 1st. Works included in the show must remain on exhibit until exhibit ends. The gallery space will typically be available for viewing Monday thru Friday from 10am-8pm. This gallery will be open some evenings depending on scheduled classes. An artists’ reception is planned for Monday, June 4th from 5-9pm. Please be sure to invite family and friends to attend.
