MAP is a 501(c)(3) grantmaker that invests in artistic production as the critical foundation of imagining—and ultimately co-creating—a more equitable and vibrant society. MAP awards $1 million annually, to up to 45 projects in the range of $10,000–$45,000 per grant. The grant supports original live performance projects that embody a spirit of deep inquiry, particularly works created by artists who question, disrupt, complicate, and challenge inherited notions of social and cultural hierarchy across the United States.

One of the common misconceptions about MAP is that it is only for coastal artists, but we’re a national program and we’d like to see more representation within our applicant pool. Our past three grant cycles suggest that we don’t have significant applicant representation from South Dakota. I’m reaching out because I want to ensure artists in your constituency are aware of our funding opportunity. Our materials for the 2020 grant cycle, which runs from October 21, 2019-November 25, 2019, are now available on our website.
