Northern Prairie Arts – Watertown’s Arts Council invites you to the 4th Annual Paint the Northern Prairie in and around Watertown, SD. We are excited to expand our event to include the participation of photographers and writers in the year’s first Shoot the Northern Prairie and Paint the Northern Prairie – with words.

Plein Air Artists and writers will create on August 16-17, 2019 – with everyone invited to an Early Bird “Quick Draw” on Thursday night August 15th in downtown Watertown. The “Quick Draw” takes place during Thursday Night Live with music and plenty of people in Historic Uptown Watertown. On Sunday, the event culminates with the traditional Wet Show and Sale.

The Watertown area offers many painting and photographic opportunities for plein air artists and for photographers: lakes and waterways, parks, historical buildings and much more. Maps of the area will be provided for all participants, including a map highlighting scenes that most inspired Terry Redlin’s works.

A Youth and an Adult Plein Air painting class will be offered prior to the event at the Terry Redlin Art Center. There will be a special youth registration and prize category in Paint the Northern Prairie.
