ONE ON ONE COACHING OPPORTUNITY AVAILABLE FOR NATIVE ARTISTS

Racing Magpie is engaged in an initiative to provide individualized support for working artists.

You are cordially invited to schedule a one-hour coaching session with co-owners Mary Bordeaux or Peter Strong. These coaching sessions are funded through a partnership with the Change Network of South Dakota. Coaching will be available on Saturdays from July 7th-October 13th. Spots are limited and should be scheduled as soon as possible!

Coaching is available for a range of topics including, but not limited to:

Mary V. Bordeaux

Mary (Sicangu/Oglala Lakota) received her BA from the Institute of American Indian Arts and MFA from the University of the Arts both in museum studies with an emphasis on exhibition design and planning. She is currently working on her educational doctorate at Saint Mary’s University researching Lakota epistemology. Bordeaux has held curatorial positions with The Heritage Center at Red Cloud Indian School and The Indian Museum of North America at Crazy Horse Memorial where she led extensiverevamping of collections, exhibitions, and other aspects of the organizations. She recently co-curated a Native art exhibition in Venice, Italy, during the Biennale, and has served on the organizing committee of Native POP: People of the Plains, the Sculpture Committee at Main Street Square in Rapid City, and in a governor-appointed position on the board of directors of the South Dakota Arts Council.

Peter J. Strong

Peter has been working in the arts, culture, and museum fields for more than fifteen years. He has a BA in American History and a Master’s Degree in Museum Studies and New Media. He has extensive experience in community development, collections, exhibits, retail, customer service, museum management, grant writing, strategic planning, American history, Native art, Native history and cultures, historic preservation, and new media. Peter served as Director of The Heritage Center at Red Cloud Indian School and Vice President of Operations and Programs for First Peoples Fund before co-founding Racing Magpie. He has served on the Rapid City Arts Council and South Dakotans for the Arts boards of directors. He has served as the chair of the organizing committee and is currently the first executive director for the Native POP: People of the Plains cultural event in Rapid City, and has been awarded fellowships from OTA (Trailblazer Fellow – 2016), and the Bush Foundation’s Change Network (2017).
