The Mayor’s Art Council (MAC) implemented the Avenues of Art program, in which artists were given the opportunity to exhibit sculptures on our main streets that receive high visibility, in Gillette, Wyoming. Selected artists are paid a $1000 stipend for the loan of their sculptures to exhibit for 1 year, during which time it will be for sale to the public. The Mayor’s Art Council provides a pedestal to secure the artwork. If the artwork is purchased, MAC receives 25% of the selling price, and an additional $165 for the purchase of a bronze plaque with the artist’s name and artwork title, and future advertising costs. We hope to acquire many permanent sculptures for the community in this manner. In the last 15 years, 110 sculptures have sold.

The unveiling of the selected sculptures for Avenues of Art is combined with the Annual Donkey Creek Festival, a fun-filled 2 day event of art and music. For this event, artists have the opportunity to apply for a vendor booth to display other artwork. Art supporters and community members are invited to observe the installations and meet the artists. For more information, visit www.donkeycreekfestival.com.

The Avenues of Art program is a public project; all proposed artworks are screened to ensure durability and artistic merit prior to acceptance. Fragile (e.g. limestone), dangerous,  inappropriate artwork or artwork 48 inches or less will not be accepted. There are many spaces available for the rotating display, so you may enter up to two pieces each year.

If you would like to participate, please complete the application/entry form and contract. After receiving your completed application, MAC will send you confirmation and more specific information on the weekend’s events, if selected.
