Job Description

Reports to: Assistant Director/Marketing Manager

Schedule: Part time of up to 20 hours per week,
Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include daytime, evening, and weekend hours Must be comfortable with Google Drive, WordPress, and social media platforms.

Overview: Candidate must believe in the value of the arts in the Spearfish community and the importance of the Matthews Opera House as a cornerstone of community life. Candidate must be high energy, outgoing, and comfortable conversing with a broad range of artists, patrons, business leaders and community visitors about all aspects of the arts center and its operations. Must have a mature demeanor and represent the Matthews in a professional manner. Good writing, spelling, budgeting, and organizational skills are required. Must also have a creative spirit and enjoy the arts.

Summary:

  • Develop promotional strategies and messaging for all promotional communications
  • Coordinate all media channels to maximize communications reach; develop new plans to gain

    broader potential patron exposure

  • Content writing for press releases, feature stories, MOH blog, calendar of events (COE)

    descriptions, social media outlets–Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and email newsletters and

    promotions

  • Develop weekly emails to patrons on a rotating schedule to include marketing of ticketed events, gallery events, and fundraising efforts
  • Maintain twice-monthly blog posts for Matthews website
  • Create content for souvenir playbill which documents a broad history of the Matthews Opera House

    & Arts Center, and significant individuals involved in the organization. Tasks include historical

    research and interviews

  • Manage PR media distribution list and news organization/entertainment calendars
  • Work with Executive Director and Assistant Director/Marketing Manager in maximizing reach

    for fundraising efforts and increasing volunteer support

  • Work with FIP coordinator to increase vendor applications for FIP jurying and to increase patron

    traffic during the event, especially Friday evening attendance

  • Maintain and expand historic Matthews archive including photos and written materials for use on website and printed materials.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Assist with event requirements throughout the year including theater and gallery events – including set-up, tear-down, and hosting; actively engage in FIP support throughout the event weekend
  • Assist with physical maintenance of MOH facility such as cleanup, sidewalk clearing, gallery and work room maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, be comfortable climbing ladders, negotiate basement stairs, and stand/walk for an extended period of time outside.

Qualifications

  • BA (required), MA (a plus)
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills
