Garden Art: Weathering the Storm
On view from July 30 – August 6.
The Garden Gallery, in Rapid City, SD is looking for art that refers to weather, is weather resistant, weather enhanced, or weather activated.
In South Dakota we know our summer weather can be glorious as well as dangerous! This call for garden art asks artists to submit art that can remain outdoors or simply be covered in case of inclement weather.
This is the Garden Gallery’s first exhibition and together we will try out the idea that art can still be seen safely, in its physical form in an open-air setting and not just virtually!
There is a limited amount of space for hanging 2D art but lots of room for 3D artwork. The art must be able to remain outdoors in any kind of weather as well as safe for the viewing public. Artists must provide tarps for objects needing to be covered. Classes also take place in The Garden so spacing and location will be determined once you deliver.
Calendar:
July 20: Last day to send proposals, images, schematics, ideas, resume, bio, and artists’ statement. Email to: deborahmitchellartist@gmail.com
July 24: Acceptance notices emailed.
July 30: Deliver artwork to the Garden Gallery between noon and 4 pm.
July 31: Garden Art opening from noon till 4.
August 6: Last day of exhibition.
August 6: Artists pick up their artwork between 4 and 6 or plan for later.
Visitors will be limited to 10 people at any one time. Face masks are mandatory and social distancing is preferred.
The opening reception will be on Friday, July 31 from noon until 4 and be open after that from noon till 4 by appointment only. Participating artists need to be available for at least 1/2 an hour during the exhibition to be able to speak with visitors. An on-line schedule will be organized and posted online for visitors and patrons to know when you will be there. This will be scheduled to allow room for maximum viewers.
Along with their proposal artists are required to provide an artists’ statement, a resume, and a bio, each no longer than 200 words. These will be available online for the public during the exhibition. Artists’ needing a pedestal or plinth need to provide their own.
