40th ANNUAL OPEN PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS-2019

CALENDAR

Friday, December 14th before 5pm –Entries Due
Wednesday, January 9th Exhibition Opens
Thursday, January 10th Reception 4:30-6:30 pm – Awards 5:00 pm
Friday, February 1 Exhibit closes: work pick-up until 5 pm (During regular work hours)

CONDITIONS
ELIGIBILITY: All Photographers ages 14 and are eligible to enter this competition.

ENTRY FEE: $20 per piece with a limit of two works per artist. Check or money order payable to: Brookings Arts Council

PRINTS: Any photographic print may be entered. Photoshop composite prints must be marked as such. The entrant must have created the submitted work within the last 5 years, and it must be the original work of the entrant.

DIGITAL: New this year, we will be offering an online digital competition. Please submit your images todirectorbac@swiftel.net 800×640 pixels at 300dpi. Pictures that are submitted will be uploaded onto our website on Wednesday, January 9th. Do not submit any pictures that contain nudity, violence, obscenity, profanity, pornography or anything else that is offensive in nature. The submitted images must be the photographer’s original work. Winners will be announced at the Exhibit Reception on January 10th.

PRESENTATION: The Judge will consider your overall presentation, i.e., how the print is matted and framed, as part of the judging process.
Image – Minimum print size allowed is 8″X10″. Your work must be printed (by either inkjet or photographic process) on photographic quality paper. Images printed on text weight paper will not be accepted.

Framing: – You must fix your photograph to its matting material. Photos must be framed. Corrugated cardboard or posterboard are not acceptable matting materials.
Hanging Material – All works must be framed and WIRED for hanging on our gallery rail system. Bar hangers will not be accepted as our system will not accommodate that type of hanger.

TRANSPORTATION: Artists are responsible for the delivery and pick-up of their photos. Deliver or mail works to the Brookings Arts Council, 524 4th Street, Brookings, SD 57006. If mailed you are responsible for return postage and handling.

NOTE: The BAC will reject framed photographs, photographs without a proper hanger attached or failure to meet any other requirements. The Brookings Arts Council will take every reasonable precaution to ensure the safety of submitted artwork. However, the BAC will not be responsible for any loss or damage to your artwork, no matter how the loss or damage is incurred. Artists are responsible for insuring their own work. The Brookings Art Council receives a 25% commission on any items sold while on exhibit. Entry in the exhibition signifies agreement with all conditions of the exhibition. The Brookings Arts Council reserves the right to reject any artwork and its decision is final. Events sponsored by the Brookings Arts Council are funded in part by Members, Membership donations, the City of Brookings, the Friends of the Arts and South Dakota Arts Council with funds from the State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.

AWARDS

Awards will be given in two categories: color and black and white photography. First, second and third place winners will be chosen in both categories. First place winners will receive a check for $75.00, second place $50.00 and third place $25.00. The digital category will only have one place winner and that winner will be chosen by online vote by the general public. The digital category winner will receive a check for $75.00. Voting for the online competition will occur on our website, each vote is $1.00 and there is no limit to voting.
