As part of an ongoing commitment to promote drawing practices in the visual arts, the University of North Carolina Asheville (UNC Asheville) invites artists to submit entries to a Juried International Exhibition of contemporary drawing. UNC Asheville seeks to examine drawing as it is practiced and defined by today’s artists. Such an exhibition will demonstrate the continued significance of drawing through both conventional and innovative methods, exploring the intersections between Fine art, New Media and Craft.

Accepted work will be exhibited in the Holden Gallery on the campus of Warren Wilson College (with thanks while UNC Asheville’s S. Tucker Cooke Gallery is under renovation) from January 18, 2019 through February 22, 2019.

This exhibition will be accompanied with a full color catalogue. $2000 in awards will be presented by the juror.

Esteemed juror, Claire Gilman, Chief Curator at The Drawing Center in New York City, will be present and open the exhibition with a lecture about contemporary drawing on January 18, 2019; an opening reception for Drawing Discourse will follow immediately after the lecture.

Further conversations continue on January 19, 2019 with a panel discussion that includes panelists, Mel Chin and Namita Gupta Wiggers
