The Rapid City Arts Council (RCAC) is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition of the most recent paintings by RaVae Luckhart. “Life, sacred and respected, is celebrated and reborn in the painted images of VISCERAL”. These paintings are not about the visual images that we recognize as being portrayed. The forms being created are explored as metaphors for universal mysteries that remain ambiguous and open to each viewer’s interpretation. As the title implies, this body of work arises more from those deep intuitive and emotional impulses rather than intellectual ones. As the artist concludes in her statement “This work is not about a deer on a hook.”
RaVae Luckhart is a native South Dakotan artist who lives on the San Juan Islands and returns to her Rapid City home and studio every fall for extended periods of time. She is also a retired professor of art and art history from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City where she created the Art Program in 1981. RaVae earned her BFA in painting at the University of Illinois and received her MFA in Studio Art at the University of Arizona.
Her awards include a Fulbright Teaching Award, a Rushmore Honors Award from the Rapid City Chamber as well as a Rapid City Arts Council Award for Distinction in Creative Achievement.
