Who is Teen Writers Workshop for? This weekly writers group is for high school students who are interested in all aspects of creative writing. Whether you have a work-in-progress, an idea for a creative writing project, or just love to write, we would love to have you!
What is Teen Writers Workshop? Teen Writers Workshop is a new after-school program designed to support and encourage young writers in their creative endeavors through creative writing instruction, time and space to explore creative boundaries, and peer collaboration and feedback. Each session includes a brief lesson on an aspect of creative writing (such as creating dynamic characters, developing strong dialogue, mapping a plot line, etc.), free writing time and regular opportunities to discuss all aspects of writing with the instructor, a professional and published writer. The workshop structure may fluctuate based on students’ needs and particular interests.
What can students expect? Students can expect brief instruction time and plenty of time for creative exploration on the page, with regular opportunities for peer and instructor feedback of their work. Student can utilize writing prompts and will be encouraged to try new tactics to develop their writing skills. Above all, the Teen Writers Workshop strives to provide a safe, fun and lighthearted atmosphere for young people to freely explore their creativity through writing.
Where does Teen Writing Workshop take place? The Teen Writers Workshop will meet in the Cultural Cafe & Gallery at the Dahl Arts Center. (Kansas City Street entrance).
