The Rapid City Arts Council (RCAC) is pleased to announce our expanded exhibition; Selections from the Permanent Collection. This show is located in the Sen. Stan Adelstein and Lynda K. Clark Gallery of the Dahl Arts Center and is open from October 16 through January 9, 2020.
Intended as a legacy for future generations, the RCAC strives to grow and maintain a permanent collection with a primary focus on work by artists who have lived and worked in the region and / or exhibited in our galleries. A variety of art has been collected to enhance our mission to preserve the work of local artists.
The RCAC’s collection is the result of planned collecting goals and the actual resources available. In 1976, an endowment of $6000 was given by the Rapid City Art Association to the RCAC to facilitate purchases for the permanent collection. Shortly after this, an endowment from the Ann Pier fund was added and individuals made additional contributions in the following years. The interest accrued from this endowment continues to supply funding for collection purchases and care today. Also, significant to maintaining and expanding our collection are the private contributions from individuals, grants and businesses.
The collection began with 17 Grace and 2 Abbie French paintings donated by the Miser Family. Since 1978, the collection has grown from 24 pieces to its current size of 224 pieces.
The Dahl Arts Center galleries are open Monday-Friday, 10am – 5pm. Admission is free; however, for those with the ability to pay, donations are encouraged and appreciated. For more information about upcoming exhibits, visit thedahl.org.
The Dahl Arts Center is a municipal facility managed by the Rapid City Arts Council and receives support from generous members and donors, the City of Rapid City, Allied Arts Fund, the South Dakota Arts Council through the Department of Tourism and State Development, and the National Endowment for the Arts.
