The Rapid City Arts Council (RCAC) is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition of charcoal drawings by Rachel Brownlee on our Lobby Gallery Wall. Now, My Eyes See is the title of this contemporary western art show which opens Friday, November 19th. Rachel’s drawings are intensely detailed and realistic in approach; so much so that people are surprised to discover they’re not black and white photographs. The theme of this group of ten predominantly large-scale drawings is the ranching life that Rachel lives daily in Ashby, Nebraska. She uses her own horses, her neighbors, and cattle from her family’s ranch as her subjects for these studies.
Rachel was born in Rushville, NE. in 1993 and is entirely self-taught as an artist. like many rural artists growing up in isolation, she developed her craft through books. Rachel attended the University of Nebraska in Omaha and earned a computer science degree and now she produces cattle management software for large ranches.
