NMM Live! brings reggae and calypso to USD’s Farber Hall, March 15

Vermillion, S.D. — On Friday, March 15, at 7:00 p.m., the National Music Museum (NMM) will warm up University of South Dakota’s Farber Hall (in the Old Main building), with the sounds of the Caribbean. The Minneapolis-based trio The Maroons will bring the energy and music of Jamaica and Trinidad to Vermillion: calypso and reggae, featuring the upbeat rhythms of the steel pan, conga drums, fonde, rhumba box, mbira, guitar, and bass. The Maroons will add an educational element to their show as well, with multimedia imagery about the musical instruments common to Caribbean traditions.

Though the National Music Museum’s doors are now closed in preparation for the upcoming architectural expansion, the museum’s popular and wide-ranging NMM Live! concert series continues, held off site during the interim.

On April 5, NMM Live! will host a special episode of the Rock Garden Tour, featuring some unique NMM musical instruments in the mix of comedy, music and quirky commentary.

General admission to these NMM Live shows is $7 per person. Free to USD students, staff and faculty (with ID) and to NMM Members. More information at nmmusd.org .
