Judy Thompson “Gleanings from the Prairie” Exhibit

Judy Thompson, a nationally and internationally recognized artist, who paints the people and places of the Great Plains, lectured at Presentation College on April 1, to promote her two-month solo exhibit. “Prairie Gleanings: Watercolors by Judy Thompson”, explores the timeless prairie landscape-rich in history, texture and color. It will run through May 31 in the Wein Gallery.
Added to this exhibition are two artworks commissioned by the South Dakota Historical Society Press for their Pioneer Girl Project. The first painting, “Silver Lake Reflections”, is the cover art for “Pioneer Girl: The Annotated Autobiography of Laura Ingalls Wilder.” Each cover depicts Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Judy is a popular instructor for both children and adults. She has been accepted by the South Dakota and Nebraska Art Councils as Artist-in-Schools/Communities. Her ‘Homestead Series’ is also included in the SD Arts Council’s Touring Artist Program. Judy is a signature member of the Iowa Watercolor Society and is represented by Prairie Edge Fine Art, Rapid City and Lanesboro Arts, Lanesboro, MN.
As part of her residency, Judy gave two college lectures, a community lecture, and taught a watercolor workshop to fifty area high school students. She won the hearts of everyone who met her.
