Over the past four decades, many things about the Artists of the Plains Art Show and Sale have changed—the timing, the venue—but the one thing that has stayed the same is the passion our artist family shows in providing the community with excellence in fine arts! In conjunction with the 40th anniversary of the show this year, the Center for Western Studies is celebrating with a gallery exhibition of work created by Artists of the Plains participants from the past 40 years.

As a signature program of the Center for Western Studies, Artists of the Plains is designed to educate the public about the cultural importance and variety of regional art and artists. The largest and longest running show of its kind in the region, the event is an annual highlight of the Center’s Art Program and Educational Exhibits, one of several programming areas supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities.

A gallery reception for the exhibition will be held November 6, 2021, at 7:30 p.m. at the Center for Western Studies. We will present the awards for the 40th Annual Artists of the Plains Art Show and Sale, hear from artists exhibiting in the galleries, and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Fantle Building, the home of the Center for Western Studies. CWS will be closed October 11 and November 11, 2021.
