DESCRIPTION:David Smith will be our guest workshop artist on April 29\, 30\, and May 1st.\nLocation: Calvary Chapel Sioux Falls\, 4901 E. 26th St. Sioux Falls SD 57110\nCost: GPWS Members $318.60 (Ticket price $300 + tax) Non-Members $372.75 (Ticket price $350 + tax) \nAll levels of artists are welcome.\nMaximum number of participants 20.\nRegistration will open on March 1st and close on April 1st \nTo avoid any additional fees\, all payments must be made by check\nAfter registering online\, make checks payable to GPWS and send to PO Box 314\, Sioux Falls\, SD 57101\nRegistration not confirmed until payment is received. \nDavid has displayed his work in galleries and museums across the US and his work has been awarded at the state and national level. He has received Signature Membership with the American Watercolor Society\, National Watercolor Society\, Transparent Watercolor Society of America and others. To view some of his beautiful paintings visit his website at www.dsmithfineart.com \nTo prevent his paintings from becoming overly precise and to better convey a sense of energy\, David employs a variety of techniques\, including wet-into-wet application\, glazing\, pouring\, spattering\, and spraying. These methods keep his work fresh and spontaneous\, effortlessly creating dynamic intermingling of color and texture. \nDavid’s favorite subjects are drawn from nature. He finds inspiration both in his travels abroad and while exploring state and national parks. Painting subjects in compelling light\, emphasizing the contrast between light and shadow\, and revealing the jewel-like qualities that naturally emerge through the fluid movement of the medium all fuel David’s enthusiasm for creating his next work.

DESCRIPTION:Discover the creative world of wood carving with Steve Hunter. A Toronto\, SD-based carver who has been carving since 1998. This beginner-friendly course is designed both for absolute beginners and for those coming back to carving after a pause. Learn core safety and carving fundamentals using one knife\, plus a complete end-to-end project. The atmosphere is relaxed\, fun\, and supportive\, with patient coaching. \nYour registration includes a full personal carving kit to keep:\n• High-quality carving knife\n• Cut-resistant carving glove\n• Finger safety tape\n• Leather strop and stropping compound\n• Carving pattern and basswood for project and practice\n• Pencil\n• Heavy canvas tool roll and a heavy-duty canvas bag \nThe March session is just finishing on Tuesday. DESCRIPTION:Presented by Improvise Arts\, the Black Hills Jazz Festival encourages listeners to move through downtown Rapid City while discovering music in unexpected places April 22-25\, 2026. \nInspired by global festivals recognizing International Jazz Day and Jazz Appreciation Month\, the Black Hills Jazz Fest highlights exceptional South Dakota based musicians performing alongside nationally and internationally touring artists. \nLast year’s inaugural festival welcomed approximately 3\,000 people downtown for a one day celebration\, showing the community’s hunger for live jazz and community-driven events. \nThis year\, in response to growing demand\, the 2026 Black Hills Jazz Fest expands to include three special ticketed performances leading up to Saturday’s free events:
