SUMMARY:Prom through the Ages Dance
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our “Prom through the Ages Dance\,” Friday\, May 1. We will be dancing to live music performed by the El Riad Big Band\, on the spacious hardwood-floored ballroom of the El Riad Shrine in downtown Sioux Falls. All are welcome to recall the excitement and anticipation of graduation and promotion on the El Riad dance floor. The evening begins at 6:45 with a beginner dance lesson\, free with admission to the dance. The dance begins at 7:30. The 17-piece El Riad Shrine Big Band has a broad repertoire of music suited to your favorite dances; including swing\, ballroom\, two step\, and Latin dancing styles. And there will be opportunities for instruction in other partnered dances throughout the evening\, along with popular line dances such as the Electric Slide\, Shivers\, and Fireball. Dress-up or business-casual wear is suggested\, and if you have favorite formal styles from your prom era\, this is the time to wear those. Admission at the door is $15 each\, or for students with a school ID\, $7. There is ample free parking on the street and in the large lot on the east side of the El Riad.

SUMMARY:Jalan Crossland
DESCRIPTION:You’ve never heard him like this before!\nJalan Crossland brings his acclaimed live show to The Matthews Opera House in Spearfish\, SD on Saturday\, May 9\, 2026. Known throughout the Rocky Mountain region for his extraordinary guitar work and engaging stage presence\, Jalan delivers a performance that blends folk\, bluegrass\, and Americana into something entirely his own.\nSongs about drinkin\, fightin\, hobos\, roughnecks\, trailer park fires\, oil-patch strippers\, and little neighborhood dogs that bite\, are lent their truth-is-stranger-than-fiction wobble by virtue of the fact that Jalan was raised and resides in a rural Wyoming mountain town\, population 200\, give or take. Along with dozens of regional contest awards\, his extraordinary guitar work earned him National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship Runner Up honors and the State Flatpick Championship title of his home state. His album\, “Singalongs For The Apocalypse”\, won Wyoming Public Radio’s People’s Choice – Album Of The Year award.\nDoors open at 6:30 PM. Show at 7:00 PM. Tickets $25+.
