DESCRIPTION:What: Hannah Demma Van Zante visiting artist lecture\nWhen: Monday\, April 20\, 6-7pm\nWhere: South Dakota Art Museum auditorium (lower level)\nThis event is free and open to the public. \nHannah Demma is a multimedia artist based in Lincoln\, Nebraska\, working primarily in papermaking. She earned her BFA (2017) and MFA (2022) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln\, with an emphasis on printmaking and experimental processes. \nHannah’s work combines studio practice with collaborative projects\, including deep mapping initiatives that explore the relationships between place\, material\, and community. She has taught deep mapping workshops at the Minnesota Marine Art Museum\, exploring the Mississippi River\, and will return to teach again in 2026. She teaches papermaking at Constellation Studios and serves as Artist Liaison for the Lux Center for the Arts. \nRecent recognition includes the 2026 State of the Arts Prize from Creative Capital\, a Nebraska Arts Council Individual Artist Fellowship (2025) and Best in Show at the Sioux City Artsplash Festival (2025). He has received Signature Membership with the American Watercolor Society\, National Watercolor Society\, Transparent Watercolor Society of America and others. DESCRIPTION:About the Bellman Brown Bag Series…\nThe Bellman Brown Bag series is a humanities program designed to explore ideas\, history\, literature\, art\, and culture. The Brown Bag program was developed by Dr. Stewart Bellman in the 1990s. Recognizing the Matthews Opera House as an ideal venue for the exploration of humanities topics\, he engaged a line-up of speakers to present programs on a range of humanities topics each month.Dr. Bellman was a professor of English at Black Hills State University\, Spearfish\, SD. His teaching career spanned thirty years. Bellman retired from BHSU and passed away in November 2002.Programs are presented on the second Wednesday of each month\, noon to 1pm. Designed to begin and end within the lunch hour\, patrons are invited to bring their lunch\, if desired\, or simply enjoy an hour of learning and entertainment.
